to direct a film is to bring it to life from the page to the screen. every time i read a script i visualise how it would look if i were to direct it. i have done this my whole life when reading books too. creating my own worlds within my mind that feel real is one of my greatest passions so naturally i love getting to actually see those worlds around me going so far as to be able to finally see them. i hope on big screens around the world someday.

how i direct a film
having read the script and visualised it, my actions become working with the actors and the crew to create the images i desire to fit my vision. i have a background in acting from out of school classes and even going as far to take drama as a GCSE exam and an A-level before coming to university to study film production. this means that in my directing style i understand how actors work and how to get the best out of them for the project. i love working with the actors and also with the crew on the more technical elements. going to university to learn about the production of the film is beneficial to me because i can understand the technical elements of the shots i want to capture. i understand how cameras, lights and sound not only work but how they work together.

to me, directing means bringing the script to life and getting the most out of the materials that you’re given. i want to be able to tell stories that mean something, that people can relate to. i want people to be able to watch a film that i’ve directed and take something away from it once they’ve viewed it hopefully making a positive impact in the world.
the three times a film is born
on my first day of film school i was told that a film is born three times and that has stuck with me since. it is born on the page, then during the filming, then during the edit. however, i believe a film is born five times. first, in the head of the person that comes up with the idea, if i come up with an idea i see it so clearly that the film is born before it hits the page. it is then born on the page where it becomes more detailed. then during the filming and the edit suite right to the moment when the audience finally see it.
